| To the left is a motor driven, 12 position, beam degrader. The system allows the remotely controlled selection of any one of the 12 pyrolytic graphite plates of varying thicknesses to move into beam position to precisely degrade a proton beam. Each graphite plate is brazed to a copper ladder which in turn is brazed to a stainless steel tubular support that also carries the cooling water. |
